Visiting Blindwells Residents
Lots of constituents in Blindwells have been in touch with me to raise concerns about the lack of local shops and essential services, so yesterday I visited the community and met with two members of the Residents and Tenants Association.
It was a really useful visit and gave me a much better understanding of the issues local people are facing. As Scotland’s first “New Town” since the 1960s, Blindwells is a fantastic opportunity to build a thriving community that truly works for its residents.
I also had the chance to meet members of the local mums group, which is a great example of the community spirit already developing in the area. However, residents were promised shops, cafés, community facilities and meeting spaces, and six years into the development these still have not been delivered. Transport is another major concern, with limited bus services making it difficult for many people to get around and access services.
I’ll be contacting the developers about these issues and will continue working with residents to make sure their voices are heard and to help Blindwells become the thriving community it has the potential to be.
